Overview

Zeolite filter media in a 5 kg bag with 5–9 mm particles, helping reduce ammonium via ion exchange while supporting biofiltration.

  • Zeolite filter media in a 5 kg bag
  • 5–9 mm particle size
  • Helps reduce ammonium via ion exchange
  • Porous structure supports biofiltration
  • Traps fine debris for clearer water
  • Durable nylon net bag packaging
  • Easy to place, remove and rinse
  • Rinse before first use
  • Suitable for pond and aquatic filtration

Product Overview

Use this zeolite in a suitable filter chamber as part of your pond filtration setup, and rinse it before first use to remove dust. It is supplied in a nylon net bag to help with placing it in the filter and lifting it out for rinse cycles during maintenance.

What Zeolite Does In A Pond Filter

Ion Exchange Support

  • Helps reduce ammonium (NH4+) in water
  • Works through selective ion exchange
  • Capacity is finite and will exhaust

Mechanical + Bio Surface

  • Porous structure provides surface area
  • Traps fine particles in filter flow
  • Supports beneficial bacteria growth

5–9mm Filter Grade

  • Good size for filter chambers
  • Balances flow with contact time
  • Easy to rinse during maintenance

Easy Handling

  • Supplied in a nylon net bag
  • Simple to place and lift out
  • Convenient for rinse cycles

When To Use Zeolite

Zeolite is commonly used during periods of higher fish load, after filter cleaning, or when you want extra support controlling ammonium in the water. Because water chemistry varies, performance depends on flow rate, contact time and the amount of ammonium present.

Maintenance Notes

Rinse Routine

  • Rinse before first use to remove dust
  • Rinse gently to maintain filter flow
  • Replace or regenerate when exhausted

Regeneration Option

  • Some zeolites can be salt regenerated
  • Rinse thoroughly before re-use
  • Follow your filter maker guidance

Installation

Zeolite is installed inside a filter chamber where pond water passes through it. For best results, place it after coarse mechanical filtration so it receives cleaner flow.

Step 1: Prepare The Filter

  • Switch off pump before opening filter
  • Remove debris and old media fragments
  • Choose an easy-access chamber

Step 2: Rinse Before Use

  • Rinse with clean water to remove dust
  • Allow excess water to drain away
  • Do not use detergents or chemicals

Step 3: Place In The Filter

  • Position the net bag in the chamber
  • Keep media loose for good water flow
  • Avoid compacting the zeolite

Step 4: Restart And Check

  • Restart the pump and check flow
  • Confirm no bypass around the media
  • Monitor clarity over the next days

Step 5: Maintain As Needed

  • Rinse gently if flow reduces
  • Replace when performance drops
  • Change timing depends on pond load

How It Works

Many natural zeolites (commonly clinoptilolite) have a porous structure and strong ion-exchange behaviour. In water, zeolite can preferentially exchange ammonium (NH4+) onto its exchange sites, helping reduce ammonium levels in the filter flow until the media becomes exhausted.

Ion Exchange

  • Selective uptake of ammonium (NH4+)
  • Works best with good contact time
  • Capacity is finite and will exhaust

Porous Surface

  • Large surface supports adsorption
  • Helps trap fine suspended debris
  • Supports biofilm growth on surfaces

Regeneration Concept

  • Salt brine can restore exchange sites
  • Rinse well before returning to pond
  • Follow safe handling steps

Practical Use

  • Use with mechanical pre-filtration
  • Monitor water quality regularly
  • Replace or regenerate as required
