Installation & Optimisation Of Your Sensor Light
Follow this comprehensive guide to ensure optimal installation and performance of your outdoor solar motion light. Correct positioning and setup are essential for maximum charging efficiency and reliable lighting throughout the year.
Before You Begin
Prepare your chosen mounting area and check that you have the right conditions and tools in place for a smooth installation.
Location Planning
Face the solar panel south wherever possible for maximum sun exposure.
Keep the panel free from shade caused by trees, buildings, or other obstructions.
Consider seasonal sun patterns — sunlight is lower and shorter in autumn/winter.
Note: If facing north, expect reduced charging and use motion-only mode in autumn/winter for best results.
Check mounting surface stability before attaching the unit.
Required Tools
Pencil for marking
Spirit level
Appropriate screwdriver
Cleaning materials
Safety Considerations
Ensure a stable working platform
Check for hidden wiring before drilling
Verify wall material suitability
Use appropriate safety equipment
Installation Options
Choose the method that best suits your mounting surface — using fixings for permanent installation or adhesive pads for a quick, tool-free setup.
Screw Mount Installation
Mark mounting points accurately
Pre-drill holes if required
Insert supplied wall plugs
Secure bracket firmly
Ensure bracket is level before attaching the unit
Adhesive Mount Installation
Clean the surface thoroughly
Ensure surface is completely dry
Remove protective film from adhesive
Apply firm, even pressure to mount
Allow adhesive to cure fully before use
System Setup & Optimization
Once installed, configure your light for optimal performance in your specific environment.
Initial Configuration
Remove protective film from the solar panel
Set the operating mode according to season and installation position
Adjust motion sensor sensitivity if required
Test detection range and coverage area
Performance Optimization
Adjust light head and panel angle for maximum sunlight
Test in both daylight and night conditions
Verify detection zones are clear of obstructions
Maintenance & Care
Regular upkeep helps keep your solar motion light performing well in all seasons.
Regular Maintenance
Wipe solar panel monthly to remove dust and debris
Check mounting security
Clear any obstructions from the sensor
Inspect weather seals periodically
Seasonal Adjustments
Spring/Summer: All modes available — choose based on your preference.
Autumn: If facing south, modes 1 or 2 can be used; if facing north, reduce to motion-only mode.
Winter: Use mode 1 (motion sensor only) for best battery life and performance.
Adjust panel angle to track lower winter sun if possible.
Quick Troubleshooting Guide
If your light isn’t operating as expected, try these quick checks before seeking further support.
These solar powered lights are designed for easy, reliable outdoor lighting with minimal maintenance. Here’s how they work and what you need to know for best results year-round.
Daytime Charging
Solar panel collects sunlight and charges the internal battery during the day.
For best results, install the panel facing south (in the northern hemisphere), especially in winter when sunlight is limited.
Keep the panel clean and free from shade for maximum efficiency.
Automatic Night Operation
At dusk, the light automatically switches to standby mode.
Built-in motion sensor detects movement and activates the light when needed.
After a set time with no motion, the light returns to standby or turns off to save power.
Selectable Lighting Modes
Most models offer three modes, set by a button on the light or with a remote control:
Mode 1: Motion-activated full brightness, then off — recommended in winter, or if the panel faces north.
Mode 2: Dim light all night, full brightness with motion — works well in spring/autumn with good sunlight exposure.
Mode 3: Constant light (Flood light mode) — best for summer or very high sunlight conditions; may reduce battery runtime in shorter days.
Tip: Adjust mode seasonally for optimal performance and battery life.
Maintenance & Tips
Wipe the panel regularly to remove dust and debris.
Check the light’s position seasonally to ensure good sun exposure.
Test and adjust the motion sensor range if needed.
With correct placement, seasonal mode selection, and occasional cleaning, your lights will provide years of convenient, efficient illumination—no wiring or manual switching required.
Does the unit have to be mounted on a south facing wall? I can only mount it on a north facing wall, will it still function satisfactorily?
For best winter performance, the unit should face south. East or west can work if it’s a low‑use area, but north‑facing is not recommended as charging will be reduced.
