12V LiFePO4 Battery Backup Power Pack Installation Guide
Follow these steps to safely install and set up your MPPT battery backup for 12V DC pond pumps, garden lights, and water features.
Installation Process
1. Check Internal Battery Connection
Open the battery box and ensure the internal battery is connected via the small white plug (do not skip this step).
Do not store the battery backup without charging—charge as soon as you receive it.
2. Initial Charging
Connect your solar panel (12V–18V, up to 50W) to the battery backup’s solar input cable. Note: The battery pack includes a 5m cable ending in a 2-pin female waterproof connector. Most 12V solar panels have a male DC barrel plug. You will need a matching 2-pin male plug or adapter (not included) for connection.
Place the panel in full sun and allow the battery to charge for at least 24 hours before first use.
Do not store the battery for more than one month without charging.
3. Position the Battery Backup
Install the battery backup in a shaded, well-ventilated, and dry area—never in direct sun, a shed, or a flooded location.
Place the unit on its feet with switches facing down toward the ground (as shown in product images).
Do not place the battery backup in the pond or upside down.
If mounting on a wall or shelf, always leave a drip loop in the cable to prevent water ingress.
4. Connect Your Devices
Connect your pond pump to the 2-pin IP67 waterproof DC output (threaded collar, keyed flat side for correct alignment).
Connect your garden light (if used) to the 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC barrel socket (light output).
Double-check all connections are secure and dry before switching on.
5. Power On & Test
Press the power button to turn on the battery backup.
The smart system will manage charging and output automatically.
If the battery is depleted, it will wait to reach its reserve voltage before starting. To override and start immediately (if sunny), press the power button off then on quickly.
Connector Compatibility – Please Read
Solar Panel Input: The battery backup’s 5m solar cable ends in a 2-pin female waterproof connector. If your solar panel has a standard male DC barrel plug (most common), you will need a suitable adapter or a cable with a 2-pin male plug (not included).
Pump Output: Uses a 2-pin IP67 waterproof connector (with threaded locking collar and keyed edge). If your pump uses a standard DC barrel plug it cannot be connected directly—there are currently no widely available waterproof adapters.
Adaptation options:
The safest method is for a professional to fit a matching 2-pin IP67 plug to your pump and/or a 2-pin male plug to your solar panel cable for safe, waterproof connections.
We do not recommend DIY splicing or non-weatherproof adapters for outdoor use.
If unsure or you need advice, please contact our team before purchase or modification.
Always use correct, weatherproof connectors for solar, pond, and garden equipment. Never use non-waterproof connections outdoors.
Maximizing Performance
First use: Always fully charge the battery in sunlight for 24 hours before connecting your pump or light.
Panel placement: Face solar panel south (UK) at a 30–45° angle, with no shading between 10am–4pm.
Maintenance: Wipe solar panel monthly with a damp cloth for best results.
Winter Storage Instructions
Before storage: Charge battery to at least 90% (minimum 1 full sunny day).
Storage location: Store indoors in a dry area between 5–20°C.
Every 3 months: Recharge to 90% if not in use.
Never store: With battery completely discharged.
Note: Storing at full charge can reduce battery lifespan. Store at 80–90% for best results.
Quick Checks
Battery not working? Check the internal battery plug is connected and the unit is charged.
Pump not running? Confirm all connectors are secure and dry, and the pump is compatible with the 2-pin output.
Unit not starting after depletion? Wait for the battery to reach reserve voltage, or use the override (power off/on quickly) if sunny.
Water ingress? Ensure drip loops are present and the unit is not upside down or submerged.

How Your 12V LiFePO4 Battery Backup Power Pack Works
Discover how this advanced MPPT battery backup keeps your pond pump or garden feature running longer, with smart charging and automatic operation.
System Overview
1. Smart Solar Charging
Connect your 12–18V solar panel (not included) to the battery backup’s 5m input cable, which ends in a 2-pin female waterproof connector. Note: Most solar panels have a male DC barrel plug (5.5mm x 2.1mm or 2.5mm). You may need an adapter or a cable with a 2-pin male plug (not included).
MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology maximises solar input—charging up to 30% faster and more efficiently than standard controllers, even in cloudy conditions.
2. Dual Automatic Outputs
The unit supplies power to two outputs:
Pump Output: 12V DC via 2-pin IP67 waterproof connector (for compatible DC pond pumps, 20W max).
Light Output: 12V DC via standard 5.5mm x 2.5mm female DC socket (for garden lights, 5W max).
Outputs are not interchangeable—connect only pumps to the pump output and only lights to the light output.
You may use one or both outputs simultaneously within rated wattages.
3. Intelligent Battery Management
When sunlight is available, the battery charges and runs your connected devices.
At dusk or in low light, the battery automatically continues supply, letting your devices run into the evening until a reserve voltage is reached.
This safeguards battery health and ensures long lifespan and safety.
4. Reserve & Auto-Start Logic
The system monitors battery voltage and won’t restart outputs until a safe "reserve" voltage is reached after depletion.
This prevents “deep discharge” and extends your battery’s operational lifespan.
5. Manual Override (Instant Start)
If you’d like outputs to start immediately in the morning (even before full reserve voltage is achieved), press the power button OFF then ON quickly.
If there’s enough real-time solar input, the pump/light will start right away and run until sunlight drops below the necessary level.
Once sunlight drops, charging will resume and the battery will aim for reserve level before next auto-restart.
6. Smart Power Distribution
During operation, excess solar energy is stored in the battery, keeping it topped up for evening or cloudy operation.
If solar production exceeds device demand, the surplus charges the battery automatically.
LED indicators (if present) show charging and operation status.
Best Practices for Effective Operation
Ensure your solar panel is sized to match pump/light demand. 20–50W 12V panels are recommended for most setups. 10W panels may not provide enough power for daily use.
Keep panel clean and unshaded for reliable auto-start and maximum runtime.
Avoid deep battery discharge—let the auto reserve logic safeguard your battery over time.
Use the override feature only when required, to avoid unnecessary deep cycling.
Need Support?
If your system does not auto-start, check for sufficient solar panel charge and ensure reserve level is reached.
