Height Flow Rate (Direct Solar) Flow Rate (Battery Power)
0m 700 LPH 560 LPH
0.2m 620 LPH 480 LPH
0.4m 540 LPH 400 LPH
0.8m 360 LPH 240 LPH
1.0m 280 LPH 160 LPH
1.2m 180 LPH 80 LPH
1.3m 140 LPH 0 LPH
1.4m 100 LPH -
Max Height 1.6m 1.3m

Note: Battery operation provides extended pump use during cloudy periods or evenings. While the maximum head height is reduced to 1.3m on battery power, this still provides excellent performance for most pond and water feature applications. The optional battery backup (6V 4Ah LiFePO4) ensures consistent operation even in less-than-ideal conditions.

Optional Battery System (Recommended)

While the Solar Pond Pump SE 700 works effectively with direct solar power, we strongly recommend adding the optional battery system for optimal performance and consistent water circulation throughout the day.

Why We Recommend Battery Backup

  • Extended Operation: Continues pumping during cloudy weather and into the evening
  • Consistent Performance: Provides reliable water flow when sunlight fluctuates
  • Weather Independence: Maintains operation during overcast conditions
  • Long Battery Life: Premium LiFePO4 technology ensures extended service life and reliable performance
  • Enhanced Pond Health: Continuous water circulation helps maintain oxygen levels

How Your Pond Pump System Works Guide

Discover the operational principles and realistic performance expectations of your energy-efficient water pump system throughout the seasons. This guide helps you understand your system's capabilities and how to maximize its potential.

1. Operating Principles

Energy Collection

  • The panel captures sunlight and converts it to electrical energy
  • Energy powers the pump directly or charges the battery (in backup models)
  • System activation depends on light intensity and system type
  • Performance varies significantly with weather conditions

System Types

  • Direct Systems: Operate only with sufficient direct sunlight
  • Battery-Backed Systems: Store energy for more consistent operation
  • Hybrid Systems: Combine immediate operation with energy storage
  • Each type offers different benefits depending on your needs

2. Realistic Performance Expectations

Direct Systems Performance

  • Operation strictly dependent on available sunlight
  • Flow varies continuously with passing clouds
  • May start and stop multiple times on partly cloudy days
  • Strongest performance during midday hours with direct sun
  • No operation during evening or overcast conditions

Battery-Backed Systems Performance

  • More consistent operation throughout the day
  • Continues running during brief cloudy periods
  • Provides operation after sunset (1–8 hours depending on model)
  • Maintains steadier flow rate despite light variations
  • May include adjustable flow and timer functions

3. Seasonal Performance

Summer Performance (May–August)

  • Peak performance period for all systems
  • Direct Systems: Possible operation from early morning to evening
  • Battery Systems: Consistent daytime operation plus evening hours
  • Maximum flow rates during midday sun
  • Best charging efficiency for battery models

Spring/Autumn Performance (Mar–Apr, Sep–Oct)

  • Reduced hours due to shorter daylight
  • Direct Systems: Expect 40–60% of summer output
  • Battery Systems: Reliable daytime operation but reduced evenings
  • Greater performance variation with weather
  • Panel angle adjustment becomes more critical

Winter Performance (Nov–Feb)

  • Greatly reduced operation for all systems
  • Direct Systems: May run briefly during peak sun (5–10% of summer)
  • Battery Systems: Limited daytime and minimal evening operation
  • Many users store systems over winter
  • Performance highly dependent on clear skies

4. Advanced MPPT Technology

Our exclusive Maximum Power Point Tracking system maximizes efficiency in challenging light conditions:

How MPPT Works

  • Continuously optimizes solar panel output
  • Automatically adjusts to changing light
  • Previously only used in industrial systems

30% Efficiency Boost

  • Better low-light performance
  • Faster battery charging
  • Longer operating hours

PowerBee Innovation

  • First in small pumps
  • Professional-grade technology
  • Sets new industry standard

5. Optimizing Performance

Seasonal Panel Positioning

Adjust the panel angle based on the sun's position:

  • Winter: 60° angle
  • Spring/Autumn: 40° angle
  • Summer: 20–30° angle

Seasonal adjustments are vital for direct systems.

Critical Installation Factors

  • Face panel south
  • Avoid shade completely
  • Clean panel weekly
  • Ensure full-day sun exposure
  • Keep battery units dry and ventilated

6. System-Specific Features

Direct-Powered Systems

  • Simple, maintenance-free
  • No moving parts beyond pump
  • Lower cost than battery systems
  • Ideal for daytime water features
  • Best for locations with reliable sun

Battery-Backed Systems

  • Reliable in variable weather
  • Runs during cloudy and evening periods
  • Often includes timer functions
  • Automatic low-battery protection
  • Ideal for continuous water circulation

7. Maintenance for Longevity

Regular Care

  • Clean panel weekly
  • Clean pump filter monthly
  • Check all connections
  • Inspect cables for damage
  • Adjust panel seasonally

Battery Maintenance

  • Keep battery dry and ventilated
  • Complete full charge cycles periodically
  • Store indoors in extreme cold
  • Check for corrosion
  • Replace within 18–24 months

8. Winter Considerations

Winter Storage

  • Remove system during winter if possible
  • Clean before storing
  • Store in frost-free location
  • Fully charge battery before storage
  • Inspect for wear before spring

Winter Operation

  • Expect minimal output
  • Direct systems may not run on cloudy days
  • Battery systems more reliable but limited
  • Adjust panel to 60° for low sun
  • Protect pump from freezing
Can this model be used just to ripple the water rather than a fountain? Also, can the lights be turned off?

Hi yes you would just install it so the nozzle was just beneath the surface to ripple, the lights can be turned off separately also
