A powerful little fountain kit that pushes 520 LPH through a bell fountain head up to 0.9m high, running on a 5W aluminium-framed panel in direct sunlight with no battery needed.
Set the pump in the water and position the solar panel where it will receive strong, direct sunlight, then choose a spray head (or attach tubing) to suit your setup. Because it’s a direct panel-to-pump kit with a lead between the pump and panel, placement and panel orientation are the main factors to consider when planning how it will run.

Our direct systems are designed for efficient operation during sunny daylight hours. Follow this guide for proper setup, seasonal adjustments, and maintenance to maximize performance and longevity.
Quick Installation Guide
Step 1: Place pump in water on stable platform
Step 2: Position solar panel in direct sunlight
Step 3: Connect pump to solar panel
Step 4: Select spray head, and enjoy!
1. Before You Begin
Component Verification
Inspect solar panel for cracks or damage
Verify pump unit is undamaged and operational
Check cable for fraying or loose connections
Confirm all mounting hardware is included
Ensure all components are present
Site Assessment
Choose location with full sun exposure
Calculate total head height and distance
Ensure equipment accessibility for maintenance
Consider seasonal sun angles
Avoid areas with shade from trees or structures
2. Critical Safety Guidelines
Never operate the pump out of water
Secure all connections properly
Keep panel clean and free from debris
Mount panel securely to prevent wind damage
Do not cut or extend the cable without proper waterproof connectors
3. Installation Process
Solar Panel Positioning
Mount panel securely with provided hardware (if included)
Discover the operational principles and seasonal performance of your energy-efficient pump system. This guide explains how to maximize its potential through proper positioning and seasonal adjustments.
1. Basic Operating Principle
Direct Solar Operation
The panel captures sunlight and converts it directly into electrical energy
Power flows immediately to the pump without storage
Pump performance directly matches available sunlight intensity
Operation begins automatically when sufficient sunlight is available
2. Seasonal Operation
Peak Season (May to September)
Optimal performance during direct sunlight hours
Flow rate varies with available sunlight
Maximum flow rate achieved in full sunlight
Best performance during clear weather conditions
Shoulder Seasons (March-April, October)
Shorter operational hours with seasonal daylight
Variable performance based on weather conditions
Expect 40-60% of peak season performance
Performance highly dependent on clear days
Winter Operation (November-February)
Limited operation during peak sunlight hours
Expect 5-10% of peak season performance
Performance highly dependent on direct sunlight
Consider removing system during winter months
3. Optimizing Performance
Seasonal Panel Positioning
To maximize energy capture, adjust the panel angle based on the sun's position throughout the year. In the UK:
Winter (November-February): Position at 60° angle
Spring/Autumn (March-April, September-October): Adjust to 40° angle
Summer (May-August): Set at 20-30° angle
Regular seasonal adjustment ensures optimal energy capture.
Critical Installation Factors
Position panel facing south for maximum exposure
Avoid any shading on the panel surface
Clean panel regularly to maintain efficiency
Ensure unobstructed sunlight throughout the day
Performance Expectations
Flow rate varies with sunlight intensity
Operation stops during insufficient light
No nighttime or heavy cloud operation
Performance improves with direct sunlight
4. System Types
Direct Systems
Simple panel-to-pump connection
Operates only during sufficient daylight
Flow rate directly reflects available sunlight
Stops immediately when sun is blocked
Most economical option
Battery-Backed Systems
Includes energy storage capability
Provides more consistent water flow
Continues operation during brief cloudy periods
Can function after sunset for several hours
Often includes timer functionality
5. Maintenance Requirements
Regular Care
Clean panel surface weekly for optimal energy capture
I have another pump with battery backup where the battery eventually failed. I found that it actually worked much better and for longer periods without the battery in the system which effectively reduced efficiency. Hence my purchase of this one which is working brilliantly and of course miles cheaper. It works ok in cloud unkess very dark but even the battery ones are only intermittent so you actually get more bang for your buck as withiut the battery it works more of the time altogether. Great bit of kit and solar panel is efficient for its small size.
5 watt solar pump
Used to replace an underpowered 2w pump. Excellent flow rate. Good length of cable and plenty of pipe lengths to extend in water feature. Works very well.
