Will this light stay on all night or only when it detects movement?
Both options are available — you choose by pressing the button on the unit to cycle through four modes. Mode 1 runs at 25% brightness all night; Mode 4 runs at 100% all night. If you prefer motion-only activation, Mode 3 keeps the light off until movement is detected, then fires to 100% for 30 seconds. Mode 2 blends both: a dim 10% background glow all night with a full-brightness burst on motion.
What does the ALS system actually do — is it just a marketing term?
ALS (Adaptive Lighting System) is a patented control circuit that monitors the battery's charge level in real time and automatically dims the output when charge is low - most relevant on short winter days or after a run of overcast weather. The goal is to keep the light running all night rather than shining brightly for a few hours then cutting out. Sresky rate it for over 10 days of low-mode running in rainy weather, which assumes the panel is still charging through the cloud rather than the battery working alone.
How far away and how wide an arc does the motion sensor cover?
The PIR sensor detects movement within a 120° horizontal arc at distances up to 5 metres. When triggered (in Mode 2 or Mode 3), it switches the light to 100% brightness for 30 seconds before returning to its standby state. For best coverage of a driveway or entrance, the installation guide recommends mounting at 2–3 metres height on a south-facing wall.
