Solar Phone Charger Explorer Pro : Bike Touring
I do a lot of cycling, regularly cycling one day, camping out and then cycling back the next, so the ability to charge electronic devices such as my Garmin and my mobile is essential. I did a few experiments before doing a review so that I would be able to report accurately on my experience...
The Charge Pack:
I completely drained my phone (Motorola Atrix) and then plugged the fully charged pack into it. I had a 90% full battery in 2 hours and a completely drained pack. Now bearing in mind that I have a 1900mAh battery in my phone, that is good. I can use the phone on medium use over a weekend and it will still have about 15% charge left on a Sunday night, it takes a bit of draining and equally a fair bit to charge from scratch, so I was very impressed with that.
Large Solar Panel:
I have used this in a few different ways, firstly to trickle charge the Charge Pack. I clipped it securely to my rear panniers and connected it to the Charge Pack, (which was inside the pannier), and set off as normal. The clips and the strap kept it very secure and the Charge Pack was full when I arrived at my destination 8 hours later. I didn't check on it periodically, so I don't know how it actually took, but it did what I wanted it to do, which was charge as I rode.
The other way I use it is by attaching the Solar Panel to my handlebar bag, then connecting it to my Garmin bike computer. Again, I rode for 7-8 hours and it kept the Garmin topped up. That is massively important to me as I am riding to Italy in September and will be camping at nights with little access to plug sockets for charging.
Overall:
Well pleased. It is far lighter than putting a dynamo on my bike, it can be used when I am stationary and it won't hamper my progress by applying friction to the wheel as I travel... I love it!

I was looking for a solar charger for my iphone with a lightening adaptor. I have struggled to find a product that would suit my needs until I came across the Powerbee solar charger, This product exceeded all my expectations, with the versatile set of adaptors I am able to charge a variety of my hardware. after planning a canoe trip down the river wye I needed a power supply to keep our electrical goods going I was very doubtful that this would be sufficient for our needs but after some sound and very friendly advice from the support team I was very pleased that I bought this product , we canoed for 13 days just caring what we needed, the power bee kept cameras and phones topped up brilliant
Solar Phone Charger Explorer Pro : replacement unit
I was bought a solar charger as a present for Christmas 2011. I didn't use it until May 2012 where I found the unit would not power up my phone. I contacted Nathan at Powerbee, he was very efficient and tried to sort it out over the phone.....to no avail. He then suggested I return the unit, and to their eternal credit Powerbee sent me a replacement battery in 6 days.....fantastic ,well done Powerbee great company. If you need a solar battery charger,as an extension power source for your phone this is the company to deal with.

When you unpack the item you can immediatly see that this product is well designed and made, comes complete with usb cable and has many adaptors to suit most applications.
The powerpack was already fully charged when received so I tested it by rechargeing my mobiles in the wilds of Scotland with no problems.At home the powerpod was recharged using the travel charger through the closed windows of the conservatory.
The system is easy to pack and use and of course the recharging of your phone/player and the power pack is always going to be free. Will be seeing what other applications it can be used for next.
If you are looking for a recharge system you cannot do better than this one.
Solar Phone Charger Explorer Pro : Worthwhile piece of kit
I ordered this in July with a limited delivery window in August, which Powerbee hit spot on. I had an upgrade to the executive 3500mAh model and this is very well made and worked extremely well. A days hiking in the Alps with the big panel strapped to the rucksack produced enough juice to easily charge 2 mobiles, one a resource-hungry Nokia 5800. The only downside was that the battery pack looked so sharp, somebody pinched it out of our luggage, probably thinking it was an iPhone! I have ordered a replacement - once you find something that works, you don't want to let it slip away.

Excellent product for travelling,has so many connectors that all our equipment will be covered thus saving a bag full of chargers! Once the Powerpod has been fully charged via computer, my iPhone -from quarter- took about 2 hours to reach maximum. Worth getting the Solar Panel for long stays away. Received the Powerpod within a week although I had been warned it might be 4-5 weeks, so am extremely satisfied with the company,any queries dealt with by phone after an email.
