Solar Panel Calculator

How to choose an electrical solar panel system

or use our Handy Table Solar Panel Table

Please enter the appliances you wish to run on Solar Power

example entries below are for 2 * 11 watt bulbs run for 5 hours every day

Appliance Watts
(e.g 11 watt bulb)
Hours per appliance per day
1 (eg light) Hours
2 (e.g tv) Hours
3 Hours
4 Hours
5 Hours

Total Energy Requ'd by appliances per day is: WattHours

Automatic Adjustment for Efficiency

To account for natural losses, we multiply the result by 1.2 (this factor allows for natural system losses, assuming 85% efficiency).

Therefore, we will assume the panels will actually need to be able to supply a total of WattHours

Power Rating of Solar Panels:

Season Average Hrs of sunshine per day (based on UK)

Total Panel Rating in Watts Required
for above appliances

Summer 7
Average 4

We would recommend that for UK conditions the Average figure is used to select your Panel,

each panel is rated in Watts, the panels are modular and so you can link them together.

If the figure is lower than a panel rating i.e if you have a requirement for an 13 watt panel,

then you can either buy

3 * (5 watt panels) making 15 watts

OR

1 * (10 watt panel) and 1 * ( 5 watt panel) making 15 watts

It is usually better to go for less panels, depending upon your space requirements.

it is always better to have slightly too much power in preference to not quite enough.
